On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2017 season. The Griswold Youth Football Association Inc. was established in 2000 and is entering its 18th year of existence. Each year our program continues to grow in size and talent and has become one of the premiere programs in the area. Children ages 5-14 years old (8th grade and under) living in the towns of Griswold, Lisbon and Voluntown can participate in our program. Additionally, children from Canterbury, Preston, Sprague (Baltic, Hanover and Versailles) and North Stonington can also participate in our program.
Prior to the 2014 season, youth football teams in Southeastern Connecticut were formed based upon a player’s weight. Now, youth football teams are formed based solely upon a player’s age. This means no matter how big or small you are you will be able to play youth football with players your own age. This change was implemented across all 14 towns in the Southern New England Youth Football Conference (SNEYFC) in order to become aligned with the growing trend of youth football across the entire country.
Football in the Southern New England Youth Football Conference is aligned into 4 divisions as follows:
14u Football Division – players who are 13 and 14 years old
12u Football Division – players who are 11 and 12 years old
10u Football Division – players who are 9 and 10 years old
8u Football Division – players who are 7 and 8 years old
*Griswold Youth Football offers Flag Football for players who are 5 and 6 years old
The Griswold Youth Cheerleading program is a fun, but competitive program for youth kindergarten through 8th grade. Our goal is to provide our athletes with a season full of learning, teamwork and skills to compete at the conference level. Cheerleading is a fun and rewarding sport that requires hard work and a lot of dedication on the part of the athlete and the parents. We will have practice 3-4 times per week to work on the fundamentals, including cheer, dance and tumbling. We are also required to cheer weekly throughout the season to support our Griswold Wolverines Football teams. There are a few changes to the program this year including the uniforms and requirements for needed accessories, but we hope to work together with fundraising to offset the financial costs. We are currently working with local distributors to make an affordable package and will supply you with that information as soon as it is available. Please feel free to contact Regina Cunningham (VP of Cheerleading) at Griswoldcheer17@yahoo.com with any questions or concerns regarding cheerleading.
Cheerleading in the Southern New England Youth Football Conference is aligned into 4 divisions as follows:
